A STUDENT is back at home with her family just over a week after suffering a fractured skull in a fall from a bridge in Llangollen.

Liz Wilson, from Garth, was out celebrating her 21st birthday in Llangollen in the early hours of the Sunday before last when she and friend Dewi Hughes plummeted 30ft from the parapet of the Pont Felin Hen in Queen Street.

Emergency services lifted both Liz and 21-year-old Dewi, a former schoolmate of hers at Ysgol Dinas Bran, to safety.

Liz was taken to Wrexham Maelor hospital and then transferred for specialist treatment at the Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Liverpool.

Dewi, of Llangollen, was also treated for his injuries at the Maelor.

Midway through last week, Liz’s family revealed how she had made such good progress that she was swiftly transferred from intensive care to the hospital’s high-dependency unit.

And over the weekend Liz, a student of animal care at Bromley College in Kent, was allowed home by doctors.

Mum Erica Wilson said: “Liz is now at home with us and improving day by day.
“Considering the very serious injury she had she has made a remarkable recovery. She has done brilliantly, but still needs a lot of rest.”

Mrs Wilson added: “The doctors cannot say when she might be fully recovered and tell us it’s just a question of rest and waiting.

“She is talking and moving around, but still has no recollection of what happened when she fell from the bridge.

“Liz has talked about college but it is a bit too soon for thinking about that at the moment.”

Police say they are not treating the incident as suspicious but are still seeking witnesses.

Days after the fall, the Welsh Assembly Government put up temporary fencing in front of the bridge parapet on both sides of Queen Street.

Witnesses are asked to contact the police control room by dialling 101 and quoting incident reference L085020.
