A FLINTSHIRE town provides the setting for a new historical novel.
And Margaret Redfern, author of Flint, will be at the town’s library tomorrow to talk about the inspiration for the book.
Yorkshire-born teacher Margaret, 60, was living in Pembrokeshire when she decided to write the novel.
She said: “When I came to live in west Wales, I felt a real affinity for the place.
“I got to know the north east quite well, and took to visiting places.
“It was on one of these stop-overs that I thought I may as well have a look at Ewloe, Flint and Rhuddlan.
“I remember a man pushing a child in a pushchair, who saw me looking at Flint Castle and who gave me its history; just an ordinary man pushing his son and maybe not in work – yet he knew its history. I love this about Wales.”
Flint is about brothers Will and Ned, whose task it is to build the foundations for a castle at Flint.
Margaret said: “It is the adventure of two brothers on a ‘journey to maturity’ type story.
“I am excited and nervous at being back here because I had such great times visiting and researching. I also feel honoured. Every writer wants to be read and listened to.”
The talk will be held at Flint Library tomorrow from 11am. Telephone 01352 703737 to book a place.
