A MAN is in a serious condition in Wrexham Maelor Hospital after he suffered a gunshot wound yesterday.

Armed police and paramedics rushed to Llangollen at just before 1.40pm following a report of a man having sustained a serious injury.

He was immediately transferred to the Maelor where he was last night in a serious condition and receiving intensive care.

Police do not know whether anyone else was involved in the shock incident which centred on the area around the canal towpath just past the Chainbridge Hotel towards Horseshoe Falls which was cordoned off, the Whitewaters Hotel and the Wild Pheasant Hotel and Spa.

They have recovered a firearm which is being forensically examined. The force helicopter toured the space above the town for at least an hour and dog section officers were also used.

Chief Inspector Andrew Williams from the North Wales Police Central Division said last night: “The circumstances of this incident are still unclear and detective officers are currently investigating the circumstances.

“It would therefore be irresponsible at this stage to speculate about what happened but it is fair to say incidents such as this are rare in North Wales as a whole.

“The general public can be completely confident that the police are fully investigating this incident and local officers will be present in Llangollen to reassure member of the community in this respect.”
