AN ONLINE campaign has been started, calling for a pub to be reopened.

The Mill Tavern on Northop Road, Flint recently closed abruptly and now a group called ‘Re-open the Mill Tavern’ has been launched on social networking website Facebook.

Flint Trelawny councillor Ted Evans said the pub had closed without warning.

He said: “I thought they were doing a refurbishment as I saw a lorry with carpenters outside, but they were boarding up the windows.”

Cllr Evans said he would welcome new owners stepping in and thought the pub could be successful again.

He said: “People were using the Mill a lot, so I didn’t understand why it closed.”

Lorraine Francis, a member of the Facebook group, told the Leader: “We were in there for quiz night on a Thursday and without a mention to anyone, it closed the following Saturday.

“Three staff were left unemployed – even they weren’t told.”

Cllr Evans added: “Now people from the area who want to go to a pub for a drink or a game of darts have to walk up to Mountain Park Hotel or go into town.”

On the Facebook group, Lorraine wrote: “The Mill has such a large potential catchment area and is possibly a little goldmine in the making.”

Another member, James Pearson, wrote: “I miss this place so much. Me and my friends have had to go elsewhere in Flint and it’s not the same.”

The campaign group was launched at the start of May and already has more than 100 supporters. A spokesperson for Punch Taverns, the company which leases the Mill Tavern, said: “Our priority is that the Mill Tavern continues to operate as a pub and we are actively recruiting a new licensee to work in partnership with us to build a strong business that is a credit to the community it serves.

“If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact the recruitment team.”
