A WALK to raise money for the children of a mum found dead at her home could become an annual event its organiser has said.

Leanne George, a childhood friend of Leah Ingham, helped host the event from Llangollen to Ruabon on Saturday.

Leah was found dead at her Montgomery Road home in Caia Park in February.
So far nearly £2,000 has been raised for her children Callum, four, and Megan, two.

The walk took in part of the Llangollen Canal route through Trevor and Garth.

With fun very much to the fore, participants stopped off at a number of local pubs to surprise regulars with their outlandish garb.

Leanne said the event was a great success and the walkers drew lots of attention in their eyecatching costumes.

Those involved dressed as characters including Little Red Riding Hood, the Big Bad Wolf and the moustachioed runners from the 118 118 adverts.

She said: “It’s too early to say how much there is because we’ve given people two weeks to get their sponsorship money in. After that, it will go to Leah’s mum, Heather.

“We are now thinking about doing the walk once a year, in Leah’s memory, and to keep raising money for Callum and Megan.”

She thanked everyone who took part and all those who contributed to the fund.
Leah herself was a keen walker and cyclist, Leanne said.

Brian Buckley, 41, formerly of Montgomery Road, Caia Park, has been charged with the murder of Leah Ingham and a trial is due to be held at Mold Crown Court in July.
