A DAD whose son is suffering from cancer raised vital cash for charity by taking part in the London Marathon.

The Keen family, of Gredington Close, Wrexham, have been raisng funds for the children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent.

Seventeen-year-old Tom Keen, a student at Yale College, was diagnosed with cancer in 2008 and CLIC Sargent has been a big source of support ever since.

Tom’s dad, Mike, said: “We have received fantastic care from the nurses who have looked after us.

“Over the past six months we have held various fundraisers and several other events have been organised for us which have received tremendous backing from the people of Wrexham.

“As a result of the hard work put in by many people, especially my wife, Penny, and daughter, Katie, we have now raised just over £12,000.” One of the most recent successes for the Keens has been Mike’s running the London Marathon, where he clocked three hours 59 minutes and 32 seconds.

It was Mike’s first marathon but the 47 year-old is hoping to tackle it again next year with Tom.

Among the many people and organisations which have helped raise money is Henry’s Gents’ Hairdresser’s in Charles Street, where donations from customers and staff made around £230.
