AN INSPIRATIONAL family is taking on a mountainous challenge in an attempt to raise awareness of the disease that affects their disabled son.
Clair and David Williams, from Holywell, along with their daughter Chantelle, 10, are doing a sponsored walk up Moel Famau with 12-year-old Joshua who suffers from arthrogryposis, a rare congenital disorder that affects the muscles and limbs.
The family will push Joshua in his wheelchair and will be donating all proceeds to the Arthrogryposis Group.
Clair, 28, said they decided to take on the challenge as it had always been Josh’s ambition to walk Moel Famau.
She said: “Josh is a fighter. He can’t do sports so he gets depressed and he wants to achieve something for himself. Mentally he can do anything.”
Josh has shortened limbs and is partially deaf. His baby sister, Kelsey, aged 22 months, has a less severe strain of the disease, which has left her with shortened fingers.
Josh is able to walk a little with some aid but is in constant pain and needs help dressing as he cannot lift his arms above his head.
Clair praised Josh’s school, Holywell High, for playing a vital role in his development along with her daughter Chantelle who she described as a “little star”.
The family has already raised nearly £300 for the cause but are hoping to bring in much more.
Clair added: “We’ve had so much support from everywhere. Josh is so excited, he’s even taken sponsor forms to school.”
