AN AIRCRAFT worker has appeared in court charged with killing a 24-year-old man.

Gafyn Thomas Denman, 21, appeared in custody at Flintshire magistrates’ court at Mold yesterday.

Denman, of Woodlands Close in Mold, is charged with the manslaughter of 24-year-old Peter William Jones of Buckley.

Mr Jones died in hospital from an inoperable head injury on Sunday morning after allegedly being attacked in Precinct Way, Buckley, during the early hours of that day.

Magistrates rejected a bail application and sent the case to Mold Crown Court where Denman will appear at a preliminary hearing on May 21.

A 22-year-old man from Sychdyn, who was also arrested by police, has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Mr Jones’s family have paid tribute to a ‘loving brother and uncle’.

Yesterday Ashley Jones, headteacher at his former school, the Alun in Mold described him as a ‘delightful student’ and said he was very popular during his time at the school.

He said: “We were shocked to hear the tragic news about one of our ex-pupils,
Peter Jones. Everyone remembers Peter during his time here – you could not help but like him as he always had a smile. He was a very popular young man.

“His group tutor of five years remembers Peter for his cheeky sense of humour and said that he was a pleasure to have in the tutor group.

“He was an absolutely delightful student.”

There are now more than 1,300 members of the Facebook group ‘In Memory of Peter Jones RIP’.

Group member Mark Richardson wrote: “RIP Pete. You went through so much in such a short life for you to be taken away like this is so so sad. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Sleep tight mate.”
