THE grieving family and friends of a much-loved teenager turned out in force for a football match in his memory.

More than 100 people attended the Danny Evans Memorial match at Halkyn United’s football ground on Saturday where Danny’s team the Greens took on the Blues and won 5-4.

Mum Debbie Evans, of Normanby Drive, Connah’s Quay, said she was very proud to see so many people turn out to honour her son.

“It was freezing, but they still came. That is how loved Danny was,” she said.

“He was very special to a lot of people and a lot of people are still missing him.

“His friends are keeping us strong.”

The 18-year-old Welsh champion high jumper died when the car he was travelling in overturned on Sealand Road in February.

More that £1,200 was raised on the day which will be donated to Deeside Athletics Club, where Danny was a member.

A commemorative plaque was also put up in the clubhouse and Danny’s parents Mark and Debbie received a football shirt signed by their son’s former Halkyn United team-mates.

The family have organised several fundraising events in his memory including the Danny Evans Memorial Games which will take place at Deeside College athletics track on Sunday, June 6.
