A FOOTBALL club is appealing for new blood after its chairman announced plans to step down.

Mold Alexandra FC chairman Craig Hughes, 42, will leave his post this summer because of time constraints after holding the position, and that of vice-chairman, on many occasions over the past 15 years.

He said: “I have a new job and travelling has become an issue. I have enjoyed my time as chairman.

“This season on the pitch up until Christmas we were doing really well, then we just went on a bad run.”

The club, which draws an average crowd of between 50 and 60 supporters, is now looking to attract new people to help make it an integral part of the community.

Mr Hughes said: “Vice-chairman Gary Austin and I felt we had taken the club as far as we could. Someone with fresh ideas and a number of new people might be just what the club needs.

“We feel the time is right for a change. We would like somebody who has a business background.

“There is scope for the club to become a major part of the community, that is what we have been aiming for and we have made some progress.”

Mr Hughes will continue to be involved in the running of the club and will remain on the committee.

He said: “I’d like to thank all members of the committee for their support and hard work during the season and to first team manager Danny Seamarks, his assistant Andy Crabtree and the players for their contribution on the pitch.”
