A MOVING minute’s silence was held last night in memory of little Jordan Evans who was killed in a road accident a week ago today.

The 11-year-old died in a single vehicle car smash on the A55 which left his three-year-sister Lilly May fighting for her life and their mum Karen, 36, seriously injured.

Jordan, from The Nook, Mancot, was a keen boxer who went to lessons weekly at Buckley Boxing Club.

Members gathered yesterday to hold a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for the youngster who once competed in the semi-finals for the Welsh boxing championships.

The club’s head coach, Mark Field, said the loss of such a popular and well-loved member was like losing a member of the family.

“He was bubbly and full of life,” he said. “They all loved him here.

“He had a problem himself with ADHD (Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and wasn’t diagnosed at first, but boxing helped him.”

Mark’s daughter Katrina, 17, of Connah’s Quay, said: “He was one of these kids that lights up the room.

“He was always making everyone laugh.”

Katrina said both Lilly May at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool and Karen at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan, had been fitted with braces because of broken bones but the pair had been able to speak on the telephone and were doing well.

Older sister Levi, 18, who was also involved in the crash, escaped with minor injuries and is staying with her grandparents.

Members of the club are hoping to raise money for a tribute boxing glove in the Buckley colours of black and white for Jordan. They also had a memory book for everybody to sign.

One of the helpers at the club, Jim Williams, said: “It has been a big shock for everyone.

“He had a lot of potential and was a great kid. I think the silence was a fitting tribute to him.”

In the book Jim wrote: “Jordan, the first time I saw you in the ring I just knew you had the gift of a great boxer.

“You will be sadly missed pal. Love you mate. You’re in my prayers.”

The crash happened when the red Vauxhall Corsa the family was travelling in crashed on the slip road onto the McDonald's and Holiday Inn services on the westbound carriageway at Northop between junctions 33 and 34 just after 9.30am.

North East Wales Coroner John Hughes has opened and adjourned an inquest to be heard in full at a date to be set.

An initial post-mortem examination revealed Jordan died from a blunt head injury.
