A YOUNG motor racing ace from Wrexham had a miraculous escape when he walked away unscathed from an horrfic three-car track pile-up.

Seb Morris, who at just 14 is the youngest driver in the Ginetta G40 Junior Championship, was taking part in round six of the closely-fought competition at the legendary Brands Hatch circuit in Kent when the drama developed in monsoon-like conditions.

Seb, who lives Marford, had worked his way through the field after starting from 10th place on the grid on Sunday and was lying in a respectable ninth place.

As he approached Clark Curve to get on to the start-finish straight his car, which can reach speeds of up to 125mph, was hit on the offside rear by another competitor.

The massive impact spun him round and into the middle of the track from where he then skidded into the path of an oncoming car.

Seb’s car took the full force of the shunt on his right wheel.

As the safety car dashed for the scene it looked like some of the drivers would be hurt – until both Seb and the other driver were seen scrambling from their stricken vehicles.

Back in the pits they were both later given the all-clear by the track medical team.

Seb’s father, Phillip Morris, who was watching his son race, said: “I saw the spin and then the accident and was obviously very relieved when he was all right.

“He was very fortunate to walk away from the crash but I am confident the car he drives is engineered to cope with just this sort of thing.

“If it wasn’t, then I wouldn’t let him race.”

Seb, a pupil of The King’s School in Chester, has been racing since 2008 when he began behind the wheel of a go-kart, winning himself a clutch of honours.

This is his first season in the much more powerful Ginetta sports cars.

His father is proud that he is a couple of years younger than most of the drivers in the championship, who are either 16 or 17.

In his first race at Thruxton in Hampshire in early April Seb roared to a healthy 12th place and snatched himself eighth spot at Rockingham in Northamptonshire a few weeks later.

Mr Morris said that following the Brands Hatch shunt, which was screened live on ITV4, his son’s car is now being fully rebuilt in time for him to compete in the next round of the championship at Oulton Park circuit in mid-Cheshire on June 5-6.
