TRIBUTES have been paid to a “fantastic” father-of-three who died after being hit by a car on the A483.

Taxi driver and dad to three boys, Gwilym Rhys Jones, 45, was struck on the Oswestry-bound carriageway before the Rhostyllen and Croesfoel slip road at about 11pm on Sunday.

Mr Jones, who lived on Gate Road, Froncysyllte, leaves a wife Amanda and their three children.

His friend Rob Butterton spoke from the Aqueduct Inn in Froncysyllte of his shock at the sudden death.

He said Mr Jones was a hard-working man who loved football and was an avid Liverpool supporter.

He said: “I just found out this afternoon. He will be sadly missed by me.

“He was fantastic and always happy. He was just a hard-working family man.”
Neighbours on Gate Road expressed their shock at the death.

One neighbour said Mr Jones was “very friendly”.

He added that Mr Jones had recently attended another neighbour’s funeral.

The neighbour said: “I think the family moved here from Penycae four or five years ago.”

The driver of the car which struck Mr Jones, a woman in her 60s, phoned police after the accident.

She was taken by ambulance to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital with minor injuries.

Mr Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cllr Mark Pritchard, who lives in Rhostyllen, paid tribute to Mr Jones.

He said: “At this tragic time my thoughts are of course with the family and friends of this man.

“Any death like this is tragic and I offer my condolences.”

North Wales Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, or anyone who saw a male pedestrian in the area around the time of the collision, to contact them on 101.
