A BAR manager was fined £750 for headbutting his partner outside a nightclub.

Mark Anthony Donaldson, 46, assaulted his partner Tracy Austin outside the Tivoli in Buckley on April 5, Mold magistrates were told.

CCTV footage presented to the court showed the pair arguing aggressively outside the club.

Huw Evans, prosecuting, said both were behaving in a violent way and Donaldson, who lives and runs the bar at the Black Horse Hotel in Buckley, headbutted Miss Austin.

Mr Evans added: “The defendant was also seen to grip her arm and push her to the floor, into some nearby bushes.”

Neighbours alerted the police and Donaldson was arrested, but Miss Austin refused to make a complaint against him.

Huw Roberts, defending, read out a letter from Miss Austin which said she was standing by Donaldson, who had never been violent before and planned to marry him later this year.

Mr Roberts said: “My client is a man with no previous convictions and he behaved in a way which was totally out of character. This was one of the rare occasions when he and his partner were able to go out for the night. They drank too much and tempers flared.

“He is deeply ashamed of his behaviour.”

Donaldson admitted a charge of common assault and magistrates ordered him to pay £85 court costs and £15 victim surcharge as well as the £750 fine.
