CAMPAIGNERS fighting to save a historic church have come up with a fashionable plan to help their cause.

St David’s Church on Croes Atti Lane, Oakenholt will hold a jewellery party this weekend to raise money to pay the rent and bills.

They must find £12,000 in rent charges or the congregation will be left out in the cold.

Organiser and church member Dot Massey told the Leader: “We will sell handcrafted costume jewellery to try and raise money. “The lady who makes it has agreed to come along and sell her jewellery and will kindly donate 30 per cent of the money raised to the church.

“We have a big banner outside the church to advertise it and there are also posters up around the town.”

Dot, 55, from Flint said she would be lost without the church.

She added: “I have been going to the church since I was tiny so it is like a second home to me,” she said.

“Please support it so we don’t have to close.”

Members have set up a special committee to come up with similar events.

Also in the pipeline is a sponsored walk in Snowdonia.

Churchgoers will have to travel to Flint if Oakenholt's only church, built in 1872, is forced to shut.

The party will be held on Saturday at the church hall between 2pm and 4pm.
