YSCEIFIOG 3
CAERWYS 1
FLINTSHIRE bragging rights belong to Ysceifiog after a good opening night comeback win versus Caerwys.
The visitors had the lead for a long spell, but the 2008 champions came good with three goals in the last half-an-hour.
Joint-Caerwys boss John Owens said: “We were very comfortable in the first half.
“Shaun (Davies) and myself were very pleased with the overall performance.”
Ysceifiog player-manager Danny Jones added: “In the first half Ysceifiog edged it to be fair, but in the second half we turned the screw.”
Caerwys took the lead after a quarter-of-an-hour when Richie Roberts netted straight from a corner.
With cracking displays from Tom Smith, Geraint Jones and Kallum Davies, Caerwys went hunting for a second goal before the break, but Ysceifiog kept the deficit down to just one goal at half-time.
While Caerwys bossed the opening 45 minutes, it was the visitors who were on top during the second half.
A period of incessant pressure ended with Ysceifiog drawing level thanks to Danny Jones’ header.
“After they equalised our legs started to get a bit tired,” said Owens.
Debutant Joe Mulvey scored to give Ysceifiog the lead, before man of the match Paul Roberts sealed the points with the visitors’ third late on.
