SPEED-loving Elizabeth Williams celebrated her 100th birthday in style – with a trip around a race track.

Elizabeth, of Chester Road, Saltney, reached speeds of 132 mph as she fulfilled a life-long ambition by being driven around the Oulton Park circuit to mark her big day.

And the plucky pensioner has not ruled out more daring feats for her next birthday.

She said: “It was lovely, I had a lovely day. They drove me around in the racing car and they said I went 132 miles an hour.

“My husband Alfred was a motorbike man and he got me into motorsport. I always wanted to have a go but he died 25 years ago.”

During her day out, organised by daughter Judy Jones, Elizabeth was driven in a Palmer Jaguar Le Mans-style sports car and a BMW M3.

Actress Judy, of Bretton, has appeared in a number of television shows including The Bill, Coronation Street and Emmerdale, playing the mum of village vet Paddy Kirk.

She said: “She always wanted to do it. They used to go there and she always wanted to go round in a sports car.

“I thought about doing it a couple of years ago, but she was so healthy and well we decided to wait and make it a big thing for her 100th. She was over the moon.

“She was sparkling. I had to whip my head round when she passed us to see. It would have scared the life out of me, but she loved it.

“The people at Oulton Park were wonderful, they treated her like a VIP. They were really lovely.”

Elizabeth was also watched by her two grandchildren Nick and Helen.

She added: “I’m not sure what I’m going to do for my next birthday, I might have a parachute drop, you never know.”
