THREE sisters stranded in the Caribbean have been left “devastated” after they had to postpone their mother’s funeral.

Margaret Keep, 79, of Llys Eleanor, Shotton, died earlier this month after a long battle with illness.

After ash from the volcano eruption in Iceland grounded flights to the UK her funeral has been put back with daughters Sheila Roberts, 60, of Chester, Linda Morris, 58, of Ewloe, and Pauline German, 53, of Connah’s Quay stranded in the Dominican Republic.

The sisters, who spent the first part of the holiday on a cruise, were unable to get an earlier flight home and were due back home on Monday.

Linda said: “We have no idea what’s going on and we are desperate to get home.

“Mum took a turn for the worse after we left. We are just hanging around doing nothing. Mum’s death has ruined the whole holiday. We did not feel we could do the things we wanted to do and it took the holiday away from us.”

Back home fourth sister Jeannette Toye, 57 of Ewloe, along with brother Vernon and dad James, is desperate for the three sisters to get home.

She said: “They are so devastated. It is upsetting for us and I want my sisters to be here. It has been the worst time ever and we can’t come to terms with it. It was a holiday of a life-time for them, but we had to tell them she was dying. They could not get a flight back and then they were due back on Monday.

“Mum was well-known in the community. She will be sadly missed.”

The funeral of Margaret Keep, who had been married to husband James for 62 years, will take place at St Deiniol’s, Hawarden on April 30 at 10am.
