A BAND from Flintshire are to make their TV debut tonight.

I Am Austin, a drum and bass two-piece from Connah’s Quay, beat 3,000 other entrants in the Channel 4 Evo Music Rooms competition to be one of six bands to showcase their music on the small screen.

Band members David Mitchell and Adam Hughes, both 24, have been in London for a week giving interviews, recording singles and performing their material to a live audience.

Drummer and vocalist David said: “We stayed in a really posh flat in Kensington and got to record two singles in a top-end studio where Mark Ronson and Seal have produced some of their albums. For the live show we performed our song ‘Stripper’ to an audience of about 400 people in an old Royal Mail warehouse.

“We did a sound check and we were so loud that a piece of the ceiling fell down.”

Already the band have a celebrity fan in the form of show presenter Edith Bowman.

David said: “When we got off the stage she just ran over and rugby tackled us to the floor and told us we were amazing.”

Also performing on the show will be Blur guitarist Graham Coxon and rising stars Bombay Bicycle Club.

David said: “That band were chosen because we were asked to write a list of all of our influences and the producers would get them on the show to perform with us.”

See I Am Austin perform on Evo Music Rooms on Channel 4 tonight at half past midnight.
