A BARGAIN store is the latest retailer to sign up for a multi-million-pound development in Connah’s Quay.

National retailer Home Bargains will join Deeside Fish and Chip Shop and Connah’s Quay MoT Testing Centre as confirmed stores at the £15m Deeside District Centre at Ffordd Llanarth.

There will also be a 52,000 sq ft Morrisons supermarket along with 325 car parking spaces and a bus pick-up point.

Paul Batho, project director at St Modwen which is in charge of the development, said: “This is great news for Flintshire. Home Bargains is one of a number of deals we have already secured for the site and we are in advanced discussions with a number of well known retail operators who are keen to be part of the scheme.

“We’re aiming to provide a good variety of shops at the development and it is anticipated that hundreds of jobs will be created once the retail centre opens.”

The six-acre development is already taking shape following the completion of the steel frame for the retail units.

Demolition of the original 1970s-style centre was completed in August 2009.

The centre is expected to be completed in the summer before being handed over to the retailers to start work on the internal fit-out of the units.

Other firms in talks for a unit include Subway, Bargain Booze, William Hill bookmakers and Punch Taverns.
