WREXHAM FC ran out 2-0 winners against Grays Athletic at The New Rec on Saturday, courtesy of goals from Ashley Westwood and Neil Taylor.

It wasn’t a classic, it was never going to be against a Grays side who were finally relegated the previous weekend. But with their fate finally sealed, Grays had nothing to lose.

Grays were without a league win since the end of November, a record stretching back 19 games, but they made an encouraging start, getting into some encouraging positions in the first 20 minutes as they created a few half chances.
Solid defending kept Grays at bay before Wrexham took control of proceedings as the half wore on.

And Wrexham opened the deadlock on the half-hour mark, captain Ashley Westwood scoring with a looping header from Mark Jones's free kick, although striker Andy Mangan claimed to have got the final touch.

From then on, Wrexham were on top but despite their dominance, the Reds created few clear cut scoring chances in a game that lacked quality.

Grays, struggling to impose themselves, never really looked like equalising but Wrexham needed the luxury of a second goal to make the game safe.

It finally arrived on 76 minutes with Taylor’s first goal of the campaign, and Wrexham were assured of the victory.

Curtis Obeng delivered a cross from the right flank and Neil Taylor stole in at the back post to volley past Garner from six yards.
