THE courage of young stroke survivor Daisy Pritchard has earned her a Transatlantic honour.

Daisy, three, from Penycae has been named the April hero of the month on the American-based website Brendon’s Smile, which raises awareness of strokes in children.

It is a highly-sought-after award, and in Daisy’s case groundbreaking because it has never before been given to someone outside of the United States.

The website said: “In recognition of Daisy’s amazing resilience and profound fortitude in rising to face and overcome the adversities placed before her, we take immense pride in naming Daisy Pritchard our April 2010 – and first international – Stroke Hero of the Month.”

Daisy suffered a stroke when she was just 21 months old.

The website outlines the progress she has been making.

It also highlights the immense support which Daisy has received from her family and how her parents, Eileen and David, are actively involved in developing her plan of care.

Eileen said she was delighted at the honour for her daughter and added that the brave three year-old is continuing to do well after heart surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospita in London.

She added: “We are very pleased that Daisy has been awarded the hero of the month title on Brendon’s Smile.

“We would also like to thank everyone who has been so kind in sending us best wishes for Daisy and asking how she has been doing. They are very kind.”
