A HISTORY student from Flintshire is preparing for a trip of a lifetime to help disadvantaged children in India.

Brittany McInerney of Rhydymwyn will travel to Delhi to repair an orphanage, teach music and take children on exciting day trips.

The 19-year-old University of Liverpool student is appealing to local businesses to help fund her trip, part of the Good Shepherd Agricultural Mission.

She said: “This is an opportunity of a lifetime.

"We are going over there to teach but they will probably teach us more about friendship and love than we could ever teach them.”

The former Mold Alun pupil will travel with friend Uaina Horan-Maybaum, from Northern Ireland.

The pair have pulled out all the stops to raise money for their trip.

Brittany said: “We have spent all of our time making hand-made cards.

"We’ve been selling them around our halls of residence and have had a kind offer from a craft shop local to Uaine to sell them for us.”

Now they are appealing to firms in Flintshire to fund the rest of their adventure.

Brittany added: “We have sent out sponsorship letters but we know this is probably in vain because large businesses already have commitments with charities.

“We could do with smaller businesses making a contribution.” The girls need £1,700 to cover the cost of flights and accommodation.

The money will also be used to help repair the crumbling orphanage building and buy treats for the children.
