TWO WREXHAM men have pledged to travel thousands of miles across India in just a three wheeler vehicle.

Matt Draycott, 25, and Kieran Owens 18, have entered The Rickshaw Run, an adventure rally across India in a 130cc three wheeled rickshaw.

The run is regarded as one of the most difficult adventure challenges in the world and Matt and Kieran, or ‘Team Altitude’ as they have called themselves, will be travelling to the South Asian country in January 2011 to undertake the task.

The pair hope to raise more than £5,000 for Frankwater which will allow 5000 people access to sustainable supplies of clean water freeing them from disease and death.

Matt, a lecturer at Glyndwr University, said: “Over 2.2 million people per year still die from water born diseases that are easily preventable.

“We want to do our bit to help change that, this sum will mean an entire community will have access to safe supplies of water.”

Although the run might be 11 months away the pair are not taking it easy and have wasted no time setting up a website, designing merchandise and building a following through social networking sites such as Facebook.

Kieran is heading up the effort to publicise the project and said: “We are working really hard to get people involved in what we are doing.

“£5,000 is a big target and we need to create a lot of support for Team Altitude if we are going to reach it.

“I met Matt about six months ago, and one night over a few beers he talked me into getting involved in this adventure.

“By being part of the Winter Rickshaw event I truly believe I can make a difference not only to the charities we donate to but most importantly in my local area, inspiring and empowering young individuals like myself to take the leap and do something awesome.”

The boys have already invested £1,000 of their own money to get the project off the ground and are now looking for others to support what they are doing.

Matt added: “We are two young entrepreneurs from North Wales who want to change the world with one madcap adventure at a time and have made the rickshaw run our first attempt.

“For me this is the realisation of a five-year dream to get involved in the race and travel across India.

“I’ve been all over the world but ever since I heard about this challenge I have wanted to do it and finding a like minded soul like Kieran to join me was just the best luck in the world.”
