A YOUNG football team is hoping to fulfill its dream of bringing home some European silverware.
Players from Gap Connah’s Quay Nomads Football Club Academy travelled to Barcelona yesterday to compete against 64 teams in the international Tossa Cup.
A generous £500 donation from nationwide recruitment company gap personnel helped the under 16s take one step closer to glory.
Academy coach Jay Catton said: “The tournament in Barcelona is a massive opportunity for our team.
"The donation from gap personnel is a huge boost and will help meet the costs of getting the boys to Barcelona.”
The cash will help pay for transport and board for the team and gap personnel managing director Gary Dewhurst is hopeful the tournament will add to the club’s trophy cabinet.
Last year an under 16s squad from the academy was successful in Europe, winning a tournament in Rotterdam and netting third place in an under 18s tournament in Amsterdam.
Gary said: “I am enormously proud of the academy’s achievements to date. It’s a pleasure to be able to help out such a dedicated and hard-working team and I hope they achieve all their ambitions for this Spanish trip.”
