CONCERNED councillors have launched a petition over proposals to split their town.

Mold Town Council is collecting signatures opposing against a Boundary Commission proposal to compress the four-ward town into a single voting area.

The plans, which would cut the number of county councillors in Flintshire from 70 to 60, have been met with fierce opposition across the county and Flintshire Council is now challenging the review on the grounds the Commission has acted outside the directions of the minister.

Mold councillor Chris Bithell said: “Our petition will explain to the Boundary Commission that there is no support for what they are suggesting.”

Cllr Joyce Jones added: “The idea is ridiculous, not just for the towns, but the villages as well. You will end up with four of five villages and just one councillor.
