COMMUNITY leaders have hit out at proposals to axe a bus service.

Flintshire Council is proposing to withdraw the Mold to Lixwm 14C bus, which runs at 6.10pm, as it is said to be poorly supported and unreliable.

Throughout February just four passengers used the service, which serves Rhydymwyn, Cilcain, Nannerch and Lixwm.

At a meeting of Mold Town Council Cllr Carol Heycocks said: “The trouble is that these four passengers might rely on this bus and it’s a shame that in this day and age they won’t be able to have a bus service.”

Cllr Robin Guest said the usage statistics for other months should be sought.

He added: “Four passengers in one month is pretty dismal by any standards, but I would like to see the statistics for six months.

"I think there would be a much better case if the figures were consistently low or in decline and then if the figures really are that poor it can’t be sustained.”

The nearest alternative is the 5.45pm serving Rhydymwyn on its way to Denbigh, which the council say could operate on demand to Cilcain, Nannerch or Lixwm.

Mold Town Council agreed to lodge a request for a smaller 12-seater bus instead of axing the service altogether.
