A KNIFE-wielding hoodie threatened staff at a Wrexham fast food outlet before making off with cash.

The raider, who wore a balaclava to cover his face, entered the Subway sandwich shop at Eagles Meadow at about 10pm on Sunday and demanded money from the till.

Horrified members of staff handed over the cash before ringing the police.

“They gave him the money straight away,” owner Emma Cleaver told the Leader.

“They just did what he told them. There was no point in putting their lives at risk.”

One male and one female member of staff, both in their 20s, were about to close the store for the evening when the robber struck. There were no customers in the shop.

“He came in with a balaclava and a big knife. I think it was a kitchen knife,” said the owner.

“He threatened the staff and got money from the till, but it was a bit pointless robbing us before we were about to close because there is never much money in the till.

“Nobody was hurt but the staff were left shaken. I have given them a day off today to recover.”

Police attended the scene and a search was carried out in the area.

“They came down here with search dogs and a forensic team were taking fingerprints from the store,” said Mrs Cleaver.

“This is an isolated incident and we have never had anything like this happen before.

“It’s not nice having your staff terrorised.”

The robber, who left with a small amount of cash, was also wearing a cream coloured hooded top.

CCTV footage of the incident has now been handed to the police.

Enquiries are on going and police are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the incident, or anybody who may have seen a man fitting the description, to call the police on 101.
