A MAN has been in court over a failure to declare changes in his circumstances to the council.

Wrexham magistrates gave Nigel Jones of Penycae a two-year conditional discharge and ordered him to pay £500 costs for failing to declare the changes, which affected his housing and council tax benefits.

The court heard he had failed to declare to Wrexham Council’s housing benefit department that his daughter had started to work and that this was a change he needed to report as it affected his benefits.

The case was brought by Wrexham Council.

Mr Jones was said to have been overpaid £4,144.70 in housing benefit and £563.40 in council tax benefit.

A council spokesman said: “If you know of anyone fraudulently claiming benefits they are not entitled to, contact Wrexham Council’s hotline in complete confidence on 01978 292728."
