LLANDEGLA is a community in mourning following the tragic death of two-year-old Thomas Edwards on a family holiday in America .

Thomas was pronounced dead at the Heart of Florida Hospital on Friday, despite the efforts of doctors to revive him after he had been found floating face down in a swimming pool.

The news of the tragedy has left Thomas’ home village of Llandegla reeling. The chair of the community council Mavis Holder said:

“We feel shocked to hear what has happened and our hearts go out to all the family.

“We will try to do everything that we can to help and support them. We also hope they will be left in peace so they can deal with this in their own way.”

A spokeswoman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said that they could confirm the death of a British national in Florida, on Friday March 26.

She said: “The next of kin are aware and we are providing consular assistance to members of the family.”

Yesterday the Leader reported how desperate attempts were made to save Thomas’s life after he had been discovered in the swimming pool.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said Thomas was immediately pulled out and members of his family called for help. A man who was at a neighbour’s house rushed to the scene and assisted.

The emergency services arrived and took the two-year-old boy to hospital. On reaching the hospital doctors continued attempting to revive Thomas.

However despite all their efforts he was declared dead about an hour after arriving at the hospital.

The sheriff’s office has said it appeared Thomas died as a result of accidental drowning.
