MESSAGES of support are flooding in for a man from the Wrexham area who remains in a critical condition following an alleged assault.

David Morton Thomas, 38, suffered a serious head injury following an incident at the Temple Bar in Frodsham Street, Chester on March 19.

He was initially taken to the Countess of Chester hospital but was then transferred to the specialist head injuries unit based at Walton hospital in Liverpool.

Yesterday a spokesman for the hospital said Mr Thomas remained in a critical condition.

Cllr David Bithell said residents in the Johnstown area had been shocked to hear what had happened.

He said: “On behalf of the community as a whole we wish him well and hope he makes a complete recovery.”

Many Leader readers have been leaving goodwill messages for Mr Thomas on our website, including Taj05 who said: “Hope you get well soon Dave. Thinking of you and your family.”

Alan Junior Gilmartin, 30, of Sycamore Drive, Lache, Chester, has appeared at Chester, Ellesmere Port and Neston Magistrates Court charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Thomas.

The case was transferred to Chester Crown Court. A preliminary hearing will take place on April 26 and Gilmartin has been remanded in custody.
