A FIREFIGHTER has been sacked for gross misconduct, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed.

Reports yesterday claimed a fireman lost his job after class C drugs were allegedly found in his kit at Wrexham Fire Station.

A spokeswoman for the service said: “A firefighter has been dismissed due to gross misconduct following a disciplinary investigation.

“The outcome of this investigation led to the appropriate processes and procedures being undertaken in accordance with North Wales Fire and Rescue Service policy.

“Our drug and alcohol policy ensures all members of staff clearly understand that being unfit for work through alcohol or drugs is deemed to be an act of gross misconduct, which may be dealt with under discipline policy and procedures.”

The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) yesterday was not able to say whether the firefighter would appeal against the dismissal, as was reported yesterday.
