A WOMAN from the region is making waves in the US film industry.

Alison Li, 23, from Gresford is working with Bourne Identity director Doug Liman.

The former Darland High School, Rossett and Yale College, Wrexham pupil went to the States in 2008 after completing a degree in multimedia production at Manchester University.

Now, after finishing a television and film producing programme at the New York Film Academy, Alison is working with the director, who also made Mr and Mrs Smith, starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Alison is currently living in Manhattan’s cosmopolitan Lower East Side.

She said: “I’ve always been a big traveller, so I’m used to experiencing different cultures around the world.

“But what I did find shocking was how long it took me to adjust to the actually living somewhere else.

"I’ve lived in Manchester for three years, so I’ve lived in a city before, but actually living in a place like New York and not just visiting was pretty daunting.”

Alison’s studies in the Big Apple saw her sitting classes in law, hands-on filmmaking, editing, budgeting, scheduling and screenwriting.

She said: “I’m glad I went there, I made the majority of my New York contacts there.”

As well as working in Doug Liman’s office, Alison works on a freelance basis and on her own projects including an original TV series for the Manhattan Neighborhood Network called The LineUp, which can also be found on YouTube.

With her eyes set on Hollywood, Alison is currently looking for a director for her first self-penned feature, a thriller called Safe Guarded.

Alison said: “I aspire to those who do what they love and get to make a career out of it.

“(I want) To be my own boss, to be financially independent, to be able to touch people’s lives, entertain and educate in my own way, to do what I love doing and be able to make a living from it.”
