POLICE are urging car owners to be more vigilant after a spate of thefts.

The first took place in Greenfield last Wednesday when wallets and bank cards were stolen from a car that was left unlocked in the afternoon for about half an hour.

On the same afternoon, another theft took place in Holywell when a delivery man left his vehicle unlocked for about half an hour and items were taken.

Two more thefts occurred in the Holywell area on Thursday when thieves smashed car windows and stole possessions, including a Freeview box.

Police are reminding car owners to keep their vehicles secure.

John Williams, community sergeant for north Flintshire, said: “It boils down to two things – keeping your valuables out of sight and locking your car.

“There are opportunists out there who will take advantage if your car is unlocked.”

Sgt Williams said police presence on the streets would be increased in order to deter thieves.

He said: “We have got one lead to follow up where we have some forensic evidence.

“We will be increasing high-visibility patrols in the area and carrying out house-to-house enquiries.

“It’s getting the message out there to people.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the non-emergency police number on 101.
