MESSAGES of support have flooded in from around the world for hole-in-the heart patient Daisy Pritchard who undergoes surgery in London today.

Stroke victim Daisy, three, from Penycae, will undergo an operation at the renowned Great Ormond Street Hospital to prevent lung damage in later life and to boost her energy levels.

Her mum Eileen said she wanted to thank everyone who has been in touch with the family to wish them all the best.

“We have had so many emails through our page on Facebook from all over the world – including America, Australia, Europe and China – and would like to say thank you for all the good wishes.

“Just as importantly people across the Wrexham area have been marvellous. I have been stopped in the street by total strangers who have read or heard about Daisy.

"They have told me they are thinking about her. It is very kind and it means a great deal to all of us as a family.”

Before the operation there was a special treat for Daisy when she was invited by Wrexham FC to enjoy a VIP guided tour of the Racecourse.

“It was absolutely wonderful, Daisy enjoyed herself so much and we would like to thank the club. They were all brilliant with Daisy,” said Eileen.

Eileen is campaigning hard to raise awareness among of the public that young people and children can suffer strokes – as happened to Daisy when she was just 21 months old.

As part of her campaign Eileen has written to Prime Minister Gordon Brown asking for more to be done to highlight the issue.

“It is reminiscent of the Big C when I was a child. No-one talked about cancer then and now it is openly mentioned without embarrassment.

Why are childhood strokes a taboo subject?” she says in her letter.
