A POLICE chief has been busy carrying out drugs warrants and tackling burglaries.

Inspector Iwan Jones has taken over in Wrexham South from former Insp Lisa Surridge who has moved to another part of North Wales Police.

Insp Jones, based at Rhos Police Station, said his main goals would be to increase public confidence in the police and to reduce the fear of crime.

So far he has carried out a number of drugs warrants across Wrexham South which resulted in arrests and charges for possession and possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs.

Insp Jones, who has worked for North Wales Police for 12 years and was last a community beat sergeant in Deeside, said: “It’s all about working with the community and blending in the sergeants and community beat managers in the area.

“It’s essentially policing to reduce crime and reduce the fear of crime- making people feel safe in their homes.”

He added: “I implore the public to phone us up and let us know what is going on.

“I’m answerable to the public and the public deserve good policing.”

Insp Jones said he would focus on what he calls “serious acquisitive crime” including theft, burglary and violent crime.

“These crimes are frightening,” said Insp Jones. “If someone has been burgled it’s going to have a major effect on somebody.”

But Insp Jones adds North Wales is still one of the safest places to live.

“Yes, there are criminals living here too but we will target all the criminals and get them to court,” he added.

“We will act on information received.”
