A COMMUNITY in mourning has paid a heartfelt tribute to a young Flintshire man killed in a car crash.

Carl Liam Sutton, of Cheriton Close, Connah’s Quay, was driving a red MG ZR from the Chester direction towards Deeside when he hit a tree near the Elms Hotel on Sealand Road at about 3.45am on Sunday.

The 26-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The tragedy is the second to occur on the same stretch of road in just six days.

Last Monday Danny Evans, 18, of Connah’s Quay died when the car he was travelling in overturned near Yew Tree Farm, about 100 yards from the Elms Hotel.

Mr Sutton leaves behind mum Myra, dad Graham and older brothers Colin and Dale.

After visiting the crash scene yesterday where flowers had started to gather, dad Graham said the family were too upset to comment.

Neighbour Michael Jones told the Leader: “It’s quite a shock. We saw the police there all day yesterday but we only found out this morning.

“It is devastating. We’re quite friendly with his mum and dad and would often say hello to Carl in the street.”

Wife Karen added: “We feel so sorry for his mum and dad.”

Scotts of Chester clothing shop, where Mr Sutton used to work, also offered their condolences.

“Our thoughts go out to Carl’s family and friends,” said a spokesman.

Connah’s Quay High School, where Mr Sutton and Mr Evans were former pupils, are planning a special remembrance service for the young men.

School governor Cllr Peter Macfarlane said: “The whole community feels this sense of loss and the school will be having a service of reflection for these youngsters.

“We will have to wait until the police enquiries are over before we learn what caused these accidents and before we blame the road conditions.”

Witnesses to either crash or anyone who saw Mr Sutton’s car being driven before the accident should call North Wales Police on 0845 607 1002.
