A MAN staged a rooftop protest after police stormed a Flintshire house and discovered suspected class A drugs and fake bank notes.

The raid in Hazel Grove, Mold, yesterday (Tuesday, February 3) drew crowds and the 49-year-old man had to be brought down from the roof of the house by firefighters.

He was arrested, along with a 33-year-old woman, on suspicion of possession of controlled drugs and offences relating to counterfeit currency. The pair are still in police custody.

South Flintshire inspector Martin Best said the raid was carried out as a result of media attention prompting members of the public to share information.

The Leader reported last week that Mold had been swamped with fake bank notes and Mold community beat manager Anthony Butlin was appealing for help from residents in tracing those responsible.

Insp Best said: “As a result of the recent media attention regarding counterfeit currency circulating in the area, the warrant was executed as a result of information being brought to us by members of the public.

“When officers arrived at the address a man climbed onto the roof of the property, but was later brought down to safety by firefighters.”

Anyone with information about the drugs or counterfeit notes should contact North Wales Police on 0845 607 1002 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
