A DRIVER had to be cut free following a collision between his car and a van on a busy commuter route.

Firefighters spent nearly an hour freeing the 51-year-old from his Peugeot 406 following a collision with a Transit van on Cefn Road.

The man, who has not been named, escaped serious injury but was taken to hospital.

The accident, near the Five Fords wastewater treatment works, meant the road was closed to traffic in both directions for several hours. Those travelling to work on the industrial estate had to seek alternative routes.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We got the call at 7.44am to a two-vehicle collision. One emergency ambulance arrived in eight minutes. We then had to wait while the casualty was cut free.

"A 51-year-old man was taken to Wrexham Maelor hospital with minor injuries.”
