POLICE in Wrexham carried out a stop and search operation as part of their ongoing anti-drugs campaign.

A team of around 10 officers, together with a specialised sniffer dog and handler, were involved in Operation Grass, which took place near Yale College at lunchtime on Friday.

PCSO Ceri Noble said that 25 people had been stopped and searched under section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. One person was found to be in possession of a quantity of drugs and was given a caution.

“We are very pleased with the outcome.

“The activity shows that we are working with the community,” said PCSO Noble.

She said police had operated in liaison with Yale and stressed there was not a specific issue related to the college.

PCSO Noble emphasised the police were involved in anti-drug activity across Wrexham as a whole.

Over the last two weeks the Leader has reported on Operation Charlie – a series of raids at addresses throughout the town which have been organised against drugs and stolen goods.

PCSO Noble added: “There was some very good feedback from the students.

“The general consensus was that people felt highly reassured by the presence and activity of the police. They welcomed what we were doing on Friday afternoon.”

A spokeswoman for Yale said: “We have contacted our member of staff liaising with the police and no issues have been raised.”

She added that every year Yale College invite police on to their campus as part of good working relations to support them in their protective community work.
