A FRIEND of a former Wrexham computer games student who died suddenly at home has spoken of the “void” that his death has left.

A funeral service will be held on Friday for former Cefn Mawr resident David Mark Humphreys, who died at his home in Huddersfield, South Yorkshire, on January 15.

Mr Humphreys, 23, studied at the University of Huddersfield and remained in the area after he finished his degree.

Administration assistant Glynis Allen, from the coroner’s office in Bradford, said Mark, of Clement Street, Huddersfield, died of natural causes. She added he was thought to have suffered from epilepsy.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned to a later date by West Yorkshire and Western District Coroner Roger Whittaker.

Mr Humphreys’ friend, Rich Cross, set up a Facebook group in his memory and described him as “always caring and always there for a friend in need”.

Mr Humphreys leaves his mother and father Dorne and David, brothers and sisters Gayle, Craig, Vicki, Zoe and Daniel, as well as girlfriend Becky.

In the Facebook tribute Mr Cross said Mark had completed a BA degree in computer games design at the University of Huddersfield and loved computers.

He wrote: “Mark was genuine, devoted to his girlfriend, his family and his friends. He was an avid gamer, fantastic barman, always caring, always there for a friend in need.

“He graduated at the University of Huddersfield less than a year previous. I and many others were proud to call Mark our friend.

“It’s a tragedy like I’ve never experienced before and no one can ever fill the void left in his absence.”

Mr Cross also wrote about creating a video game in honour of his friend.

Speaking about Mr Humphreys’ degree, Mr Cross said: “He mentioned regularly over these four years that they had been the most exciting and happiest of his life.

Mark became a wiser, stronger, better person both academically and socially.

“The experience changed him for the better.”

Mr Humphreys was also a nephew to Gaynor and Philip and a special friend of Debbie and Emyr.

The funeral will be held at Fixby Crematorium in Huddersfield on Friday at 2pm.

There will be family flowers only and donations will be received for the Epilepsy Society.
