A DREAM came true for a young cancer patient when she met X Factor sensation Olly Murs.

The Leader had teamed up with The Tivoli in Buckley to offer Hannah Jones,16, the opportunity to be a VIP guest and chat to Olly when he was the star attraction at the nightclub on Saturday evening.

Before meeting the Essex singer, who was the 2009 runner-up in the hit ITV talent show, Hannah confessed her knees were trembling and she was worried she wouldn’t know what to say.

Normally a bubbly teenager, she was speechless after getting the call to tell her she would be coming face to face with her hero.

Hannah gave Olly one of her special Hannah Banana hoodies, which raises money for brain tumour research, and the singer put it on for a photograph.

She said afterwards: “I met McFly when I won the BBC Switch Teen Hero award and that was great, but this is even better.

“I am never washing my cheek again. He was the best celebrity ever,”

Hannah, from Westminster Park, Chester, has battled back from a stroke and a brain tumour after being diagnosed with astrocytic glioma in August 2008.

Her aunt, Janice Smith, from Handbridge, contacted the Leader to see if we could arrange for Hannah to meet Olly.

“She does everything for other people. She is always thinking about others.

“She’s absolutely brilliant and I would like to say a massive thank you to her for organising this.”

The Christleton High School pupil, who has raised thousands of pounds for charity, has undergone three operations, six weeks of radiotherapy and more than 12 months of intensive chemotherapy.

After her third operation she suffered a stroke and doctors feared she may never walk again, but Hannah remains determined to make a full recovery.

Her most recent MRI scan showed no cancerous tissue, but she must undergo regular tests to ensure the tumour has not returned.

Hannah has raised about £60,000 for the Samantha Dixon Brain Tumour Trust and has collected more than 3,000 signatures to lobby the Government into spending more money on brian tumour research.

Speaking about how she has coped with her illness day to day, Hannah said: “I keep smiling every day. I want each day to count.”

Saturday was also a special night for fellow Olly fan Gaynor Morgan from Ponciau, who won our competition for VIP tickets to Olly’s show.

She said of the star: “I think he is really talented. I was so excited when we got the call.

“We watched X Factor every week, so to get the chance to see him perform and meet him after is a dream come true.”
