WREXHAM Council has put measures in place to conserve its precious stock of road salt.
At a meeting yesterday council chiefs decided to reduce evening salting to cover only trunk, class A and B roads, with these and the rest of the priority roads being done in time for the following morning’s rush-hour.
The measure, they say, will ensure that supplies last for another two days.
There are currently five to six days supplies of salt left.
Cllr David Bithell, lead member for the environment and transport, said: “It is important that we ensure that we follow our code of practice and we will not be reducing our rate of application of rock salt.
“These are unprecedented times where some local authorities have already run out of salt.
“These measures will ensure that we keep our main routes open longer and ensure that access is maintained to the majority of our schools and areas of employment.”
The A5104 between Llandegla and Bryneglwys has been closed due to a mixture of ice and snow.
No diversions are in place.
Yesterday, the majority of bus routes remained operational although some routes had disruptions.
All 77 schools in Wrexham County Borough were open yesterday.
The borough’s leisure facilities are all open as normal with the exception of Coedpoeth.
