A WREXHAM man has been cleared today, Friday, 8 January, of the unlawful killing of a man out with family and friends celebrating the birth of his third child.
As Airbus worker Neil Graham Edwards left the pub where he was wetting the new baby’s head he was punched to the face.
He dropped instantly to the concrete car park without breaking his fall, and suffered severe head injuries, dying nine days later.
Paul Humphreys, 35 of Penrhyn Drive in Gwersyllt near Wrexham, denied manslaughter and assaulting Mr Edwards’ brother Wayne, claiming that he had acted in self defence.
He was cleared by the jury at Mold Crown Court after a one and a half hour retirement today.
Jury members accepted that the punch was not unlawful and that Humphreys was defending himself.
Judge John Rogers QC told Humphreys that he could be discharged from the dock and he wept as he left the court chamber.
Mr Edwards, 39 was struck at the rear car park of the Acton pub in Wrexham on September 26.
