UP TO 160 jobs will be created in Flintshire at a major paper mill and recycling plant.
UPM Shotton Paper Mill on Deeside Industrial Estate is building a £17m materials recovery facility to sort plastic bottles, cardboard, newspapers, magazines and metals.
Building work is to start immediately and 160 jobs will be created after its completion in January next year.
David Ingham, general manager at UPM Shotton, said: “Our vision for UPM Shotton is to be the front runner in creating value from renewable and recyclable materials.
“Building a materials recovery facility at Shotton is a natural step towards this vision.
"It enables us to provide solutions to our partners in paper recycling and meet UK market needs in processing recyclable materials”.
Ieuan Wyn Jones, deputy First Minister and minister for the economy and transport, said: “I am delighted we have been able to support this latest investment which represents an important boost for the economy of North East Wales and will deliver long term benefits for the region.”
Mark Tami, MP for Alyn and Deeside, said: “This is fantastic news for the new year. Shotton Paper is an excellent employer with a fantastic reputation.”
