A FLINTSHIRE animal rescue centre was inundated with abandoned pets over the festive period.
Joy Pierce-Jones, owner of Flintshire Wildlife and Pet Rescue, Greenfield, takes in scores of needy animals throughout the year and the festive season has provided no respite.
Among the latest cases are a dog which was found running in and out of traffic in a busy town centre, a cat which passers-by thought had been hit by a car and ferret found sheltering in a shed.
Joy said: “The dog, a little Jack Russell, was running around among the cars in Holywell.
“He could have been killed himself or he could have caused a crash and killed someone else.
“We went to collect him and discovered he was microchipped, but the details had not been updated so we could only trace his original owner.
“He had a legitimate reason for rehoming the dog but the people who adopted the dog didn’t change the address on the microchip details.
“He was rehomed in the Llandudno area, so we have no idea what he was doing in Holywell.”
The little dog is now looking for a new home and Joy is trying to trace the owners of the cat she has taken in.
She said: “We had a call from someone who said they found the cat in the hedge and thought she had been hit by a car, but she seems to be fine.
“She was obviously just sheltering and we are expecting her owners to come forward and claim her.”
If you can offer a home to any of the animals, call Joy on 01352 712345.
