A SENIOR councillor has praised Flintshire Council bosses following a U-turn over staff pay cuts.
Flint Coleshill Cllr Alex Aldridge said he is delighted that three members of council staff, facing pay cuts of several thousand pounds, have been told their wages will not be slashed.
The three senior officers in the community and housing department were told before Christmas that their wages would be cut by as much as £9,000 as a result of a job re-evaluation, rather than through the Single Status scheme which could see changes to the pay of thousands of council workers.
Cllr Aldridge said: “This was nothing to do with Single Status. A senior manager re-evaluated their jobs and decided that they were two skill levels down to what they were actually doing.
“I know the quality of work that they do and I was aghast that someone could come along with the stroke of a pen and not recognise the quality of work that they were doing.”
Councillors lobbied bosses to get the decision overturned.
Cllr Aldridge added: “It caused so much anger amongst councillors because we know the sterling work that they do.
"These positions have been in position since Flintshire County Council started in 1995.
“I am delighted that there has now been a formal response and the leadership has recognised that this is not right.”
