A MAN has been fined for leaving an offensive message to his ex-partner on Facebook, a court heard.

Darren Mattox of The Laurels, Acton admitted sending a message which was ‘grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character’ to ex-girlfriend Ashley Speed and to a member of her family.

Wrexham Magistrates Court heard Mattox, 29, had been in a relationship with Miss Speed from January to April 2009 and then she had his baby in October 2009.

Justin Espie, prosecuting, said Mattox wanted contact with the baby and on November 29 was issued with a harassment order because he was ‘constantly texting’ Miss Speed.

Mr Espie said: “Around February 12 this year the victim’s sister said that the defendant had made contact with her on Facebook and the victim also received a message.

“The message was brief but clearly of a harassing nature.

“He claims he just wants to see his baby.”

Rod Williams, defending, said: “Mattox went to see his son at hospital – that is the one and only time he has seen his son.

“He became increasingly angry and frustrated and it’s because of this that he has posted these messages.”

Magistrates ordered Mattox to pay a fine of £65, costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £15.
