A HUSBAND and wife have appeared in court, accused of illegally claiming more than £40,000 in benefits.

Wrexham magistrates have sent the case of Beverley and Philip Raymond Vaughan, of Bryn Afon, Penycae, to Mold Crown Court where it will be heard on April 9.

Beverley Vaughan, 50, is charged with dishonestly failing to notify the Department for Work and Pensions that she was living with her husband between August 15, 2003 and March 26, 2008.

She is also accused of failing to inform Wrexham Council that she lived with her husband which affected housing and council tax benefit between August 18, 2003 and March 26, 2008.

Philip Vaughan, 58, is accused of aiding or abetting his wife to fail to notify the Department for Work and Pensions that she lived with him between August 15, 2003 and March 26, 2008.

He is also accused of aiding or abetting his wife to fail to notify Wrexham Council that she lived with him which affected housing and Council Tax benefit between August 18, 2003 and March 26, 2008.

The charges relate to more than £40,000.
