A GREEN organisation is in the running for a prestigious award and a bursary worth £10,000.

The  Caia Park Environmental Group has already done tremendously well to be shortlisted in a strong field of competitors for the Future Friendly Award.

The group has now had a short film made about its work, which is available online at www.futurefriendly.co.uk and it needs people’s votes to take the top prize.

The Future Friendly Awards is a nationwide search for people who are making a real difference by championing sustainability.

This year’s awards have seen hundreds of entries, from individuals to communities to entrepreneurial new businesses – all demonstrating the inspiring work being done.
The Caia Park Environmental Group are one of five community groups to have been shortlisted for the Future Friendly Community Award.

The panel of judges, including experts from the Energy Saving Trust, Waste Watch and Waterwise, shortlisted five very worthy projects for each category, with a short film being made about each to record and showcase the impact of their efforts.

Now the final decision to select the winner is up to the general public – the Caia Park Environmental Group needs people’s votes.

Contest organisers say the Caia Park Environmental Group is passionate about sustainable travel.

It runs a bike project, taking in unwanted bicycles, refurbishing them and sending them back out into the community to reduce carbon emissions and to encourage cycling among adults and children.

Alongside this, members also run environmental awareness days, river monitoring and run an allotment – all for the benefit of the community.

Dorothy Mitchell, the environmental group chairwoman, said: “We’re delighted to have made it on to the Future Friendly Community Award shortlist and are thrilled that our passion has been recognised at a national level.

“The group is really taking off with growing support from the surrounding community.”

Voting for the competition is open until midnight on Wednesday. March 31. To find out more about Future Friendly and vote, log on to www.futurefriendly.co.uk.
